What is WhatsGoingOn?

WhatsGoingOn · · 1 min read

I built WhatsGoingOn for myself. I read r/wallstreetbets, and buried in the noise there's genuinely good analysis. I've made money off well-reasoned arguments from strangers with usernames I can't repeat in polite company. The problem was finding them. A thousand posts a day, maybe one or two worth reading.

So I built a filter. First it just summarized posts so I could see the thesis and the stance at a glance. Then I added position extraction. Did the author actually back the call with money, or just talk? Then came the part that turned a reading tool into something more interesting: from the moment of posting, I tracked what the stock actually did, across seven time windows. Win or lose, the record stays.

That's the credibility layer. It's also how you find out that WSB has posted 328 resolved theses in the past year, and 44.8% of them were directionally right at three months. Slightly worse than a coin flip, on a small sample. This is exactly the kind of thing nobody knew because nobody was keeping score.

Since then I've pointed the same machinery at corporate insiders. Every SEC Form 4 (executive buying or selling their own company's stock) runs through the same pipeline and gets scored on the same scale as a guy on Reddit. Putting those two on one ledger is the only way to find out whether either one carries signal.

Next is more sources: congressional trades, options flow, earnings calls. The goal is one page where you ask what's going on with a ticker and get retail sentiment, insider activity, and institutional positioning in one view, weighted by who's been right before.

It's early. The sample is thin, the extraction gets things wrong, and I publish the limitations in full here. But the ledger only gets more valuable with time, and it's growing every day.
